Market spooked by latest C-19 variant | One of many to come | 7014 next support | 7175 7260 resistance

The FTSE 100 has once again closed in the green this week, up 0.3pc to 7,310. Gains in consumer stocks offset losses coming from Vodafone's ex-dividend trading, which prompted a 3.1pc fall in the telecoms giant. Diageo, Unilever, British American Tobacco and Reckitt Benckiser were boosted by a weaker pound.

Stocks, Treasury yields and oil sank Friday while the yen jumped as a new Covid-19 strain discovered in southern Africa sent a wave of caution across global markets.

An Asia-Pacific equity gauge was set for the worst slide since March, with Japan and Hong Kong underperforming and travel shares among the biggest decliners. U.S. and European futures fell and the 10-year Treasury yield dropped to 1.56%.

The World Health Organization and scientists in South Africa are studying the recently identified variant described as very different to previous versions and of serious concern. The U.K. and Israel banned flights from South Africa and some neighboring countries. Hong Kong confirmed two cases of the strain.

The dollar was at a 16-month high, while South Africa’s rand weakened and commodity currencies retreated. Crude shed 3% and gold rose. U.S. markets, closed Thursday for Thanksgiving, will have a shortened Black Friday session.

New Variant
Scientists in South Africa are studying a new coronavirus variant of “serious concern.” The new discovery, called B.1.1.529 until a Greek letter is assigned to it by the World Health Organization, carries an unusually large number of mutations and is “clearly very different” from previous incarnations. The U.K. will temporarily ban flights from South Africa and five other African countries over worries about the new variant. Meanwhile, authorities say Hong Kong has fulfilled the basic conditions for quarantine-free travel with mainland China. A study by Hungarian researchers found that Moderna and Sputnik V vaccines were more effective than Pfizer, based on data from more than 3.7 million inoculated people. And vaccinating pregnant women had no effect on birth outcomes, according to a U.K. study, bolstering the safety profile of the shots during pregnancy.

Early Test for Scholz
China warned Germany’s new government against meddling in its internal affairs, hinting at potential damage to relations unless it acknowledges China’s claim on Taiwan. Chancellor-in-waiting Olaf Scholz has unveiled a program that pledged to call out China on human rights, urged it to loosen its grip on Hong Kong and committed to backing Taiwan’s participation in international organizations. Meanwhile, Australia will send soldiers and police to the Solomon Islands in a bid to help quell violent protests that have been linked to the Pacific nation’s decision to switch its diplomatic alliance to China from Taiwan.

FTSE 100 live outlook prediction analysis for 26th November 2021

On days like today TA is out the window really. Fear and sentiment will drive it today and we also have reduced liquidity with the US partial holiday. US markets close at 6pm UK time tonight.

We may get some pro's doing some value buys but the market has been spooked by this latest variant, and obviously anything related to travel is going to take a hit today.

I have gone for a possible rise and dip to play out, but the bottom of the Raff channels have been broken across the board. Just be cautious today, either sit on your hands or do small stakes. Its also Friday which are usually rubbish anyway!

Not too much more to say really. Take the day off and I hope you have a great weekend.
